What Is Brain Fitness?
Brain Fitness is a combination of improving the physical and mental health of your brain. This is accomplished through nutrition for the mind, physical activity to increase brain power and mental exercise to increase brain connection. Perhaps you have heard the word Brain Fitness yet? If not, you probably will. There is a growing industry on keeping or increasing brain work as we age even. The industry is still in its infancy and backed by emerging science pointing to methods we may use to stimulate our brains.
If you picture a brain diagram, these programs can increase the connectivity between different brain parts. The timing is ideal as well, since a big percentage of the populace is increasing in age and the needs of the baby boomers are largely driving the economy. One thing baby boomers want is to keep themselves out of the mental funk. There are companies that are creating themselves in this market nicely.
For example, Sharp Brains and Posit Science have created some good products already. There’s more than meets the attention. I want to offer an extended definition of Brain Fitness. Although the term is not yet in the dictionary, one description for the term fitness from Webster is “good health or physical condition, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition”. I think this should apply to Brain Fitness as well. THE MIND is a unique organ because it is the only organ that is both physical and mental.

The mental element of the brain, the mind, is the target of the existing Brain Fitness industry. Programs that increase brain function and brain activity will promote new contacts and new circuits and help keep the mind vibrant. 8 cars and he’ll rip up the track. The driver, in this full case, is like your brain.
The skills, the data, and the velocity of decision-making are what Brain Fitness products will improve. The car is similar to the physical brain. Unless you have a high-performance machine then the most skilled driver won’t stand a chance. This is not a perfect analogy because Brain Fitness programs do help create new contacts that improve the physical brain. Nevertheless, you also need a proper diet to provide the best raw elements, physical activity to enhance the delivery systems for those elements and adequate sleep to keep those systems in melody.
In order to keep up healthy brains through our elder years we must focus on both these methods. But don’t make the mistake of convinced that this is for the infant-boomer generation. What we should do as kids and adults all contributes to how efficiently our mental machines will continue to work throughout our lives.
